The ship route on the waters of Häme region:
Tampere - Hämeenlinna
At Tampere, The Masuuni workshop built the steam ship Ilmarinen
between the years 1862-1863. When the ship was launched into the
Näsijärvi people were surprised because the iron ship
did not sink.
At summer 1863 was announced that Russia was willing to buy Ilmarinen
in the case that the ship is able to make the journey between Tampere
and Hämeenlinna on his own. So, the ship was moved to the Pyhäjärvi
lake, on the other side of the city.
At the 3rd of July 1863 the journey started from Tampere through
Sotkanvirta, Lempäälä, Lempoinen towards Hämeenlinna.
Hämeenlinna was proudly reached while the steam whistle was
giving a sound. Only the handle of the whistle gave up and was in
the captain’s hand. On the top of this the Ilmarinen missed
the pier and hit the shore, the mud was flying. The shipping lane
was opened.
